Jackson MacLeod
As a multifaceted artist in a wide range of creative disciplines, I hope to use my skills and passion for art, film, and music to tell stories and create a pathway toward a dynamic role within a creative sphere.
Art Portfolio
I am a self-taught multimedia artist with a graphic, comic book-esque style. My favorite mediums are ink, alcohol markers, and pencils, but I also love creating art digitally. Storytelling is a common thread throughout all my passions, which is visible through my character and graphic design work. Here are some pieces inspired by already-existing figures/characters:
Lisan al-Gaib
A digital painting inspired by Denis Villeneuve’s 2024 sci-fi epic Dune: Part Two. Done on Procreate.
B
A text portrait inspired by Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill. Done on Photoshop.
A Little Push
A digital painting inspired by Heath Ledger’s legendary performance in The Dark Knight. Done on Procreate.
Mission
A gallant figure evocative of the former emblem of The College of the Holy Cross. Done with alcohol markers and ink.
Attack of the Christmas Penguin
The stuffed animals, who once lived in harmony with their human counterparts, have rebelled. The vile Christmas Penguin has captured the MacLeod family, fought off the stuffed animal resistance, and hypnotized his feathered peers. Done on 18” x 24” paper with alcohol markers and ink.
Joker
Inspired by Joaquin Phoenix's chilling portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime in 2019’s Joker. Done with alcohol markers and ink.
Carnage
A sharp, violent depiction of the menacing villain to Spider-Man and Venom. Done with alcohol markers and ink.
Comedy
A more modern companion to Joker, emphasizing the duality of this tortured figure. Done on Photoshop.
Luke Skywalker
Inspired by the emotional return of the fabled Jedi in The Mandalorian. Done on Procreate.
Here are some other projects from this past year:
Holy Squirrel Has A Craving
This vibrant digital painting depicts a spiritual rodent with a hankering for something sweet. Done on Procreate with one altered photo element.
Big Brother
This kaleidoscope rendering is representative of how DNA binds the composition of this piece, as well as me and my youngest brother. Done on Photoshop.
Snake Book (Unfolded)
This snake book unfolds into a 2 x 3 ft. sheet depicting various themes and illustration styles inspired by twelve different classmates of mine. This piece primarily juxtaposes cartoons with my graphic inking style, which employs many small lines, heavy use of black, and dense minuscule detail.
The Crusader
The Crusader is an original comic book hero I created in 2021. While he had a backstory from the beginning, it was only his look and essence that I pushed into existence through my art. Since then, his story has developed into a persona on display schoolwide, furthering his legacy as the hero of my school, The College of the Holy Cross.
The Crusader
On his debut comic cover, The Crusader readily guards his native city of London. This piece, done in alcohol markers and ink, was selected as the 2022 cover of the Holy Cross Arts & Literature Magazine, 'The Purple.'
The Crusader II
A screen print (print 6 out of a series of 7) which consists of 3 layers: the yellow background, the figure, and the text. This print was selected for the Spring 2023 Holy Cross Student Exhibition.
The Crusader Linework
I composed this black-and-white version of The Crusader's debut on Procreate to highlight the figure's contrast and linework. In both his characterization and design, The Crusader is inspired by the work of Jim Lee and David Finch on characters like Batman and Moon Knight.
The Crusader II Linework
In the second iteration of The Crusader, I chose to tackle the linework digitally instead of using ink like in the original piece. This piece was composed on Procreate to highlight the dense linework and create a vertical composition more evocative of a movie poster, as opposed to a comic cover.
The Crusader Over London
In this digital painting, The Crusader watches over the grimy, red-tinted city of London. Every reflection bursts with light from the fantastic sky. Time stands still yet flows with the colors of the clouds and the leaves of the Autumn trees. The crisp chill in the air holds the world at a calm standstill, but crime lurks in every corner. So, The Crusader remains alert.
Hero Landing Gif
A hand-animated gif based on The Crusader’s first appearance. Done on Procreate and Photoshop.
Graphic Design
I have designed logos for musicians, clubs, podcasts, local businesses, and sports organizations. I have also made advertisements and posters for my school, soccer club, and student rock band. Here are some recent examples:
Missionary Band Logo
The official logo of my student rock band, which I use on posters, flags, and Instagram graphics to advertise upcoming gigs. Done on Procreate.
Holy Cross Dance Logo
A logo for the Holy Cross Dance Ensemble utilized for posters, social media adverts, clothing, and merchandise. Done on Procreate.
Lached N Loaded Album Cover
An album cover done for my brother’s third hip-hop album, Lached N Loaded. Done on Procreate.
Battle of the Bands Promotion
This poster advertises Missionary’s presence at the 2024 Battle of the Bands following our victory at the 2023 show. Done on Procreate.
On Lach Album Cover
An album cover done for my brother’s debut hip-hop album, On Lach. Done on Procreate.
Ratatouille v. Toy Story
A movie-poster-inspired graphic done for an Instagram movie tournament final between Ratatouille and Toy Story. Done on Procreate.
